SELSTON SOW UP WIN IN FINAL SECONDS

Pre-season Friendly

WELBECK WELFARE FC 2 SELSTON FC 3
What do Welbeck Welfare and Selston FC have in common? Well Welbeck won the first ever groundhoppers trophy in the CMFL, whilst Selston FC won the first ever Groundhoppers trophy.

Two good clubs I like to visit, both I have a lot of respect for, so todays 1st friendly of the season made sense for me to attend this game.

Both clubs have a bit of a overall, with Welbeck installing a new manager in Lewis Saxby whilst ex Long Eaton United and Sandiacre Town starlet Craig Weston has joined the Selston managament team.

For a pre season friendly, this was a good encounter, with both sides wanting to play open football, a even first half saw the visitors just go in 2-1 in front through goals after 23 mins from the pen spot by DAMIEN JAMES, a equaliser 3 minutes later by LUKE BARSON before JACK JAMES risen high from a corner and heading home after 36 minutes.

Must mention Referee Tim Gregory who used common sense by stiopping the game every 15 minutes on a very hot day for drinks breaks for the players.

On the hour, the homesters were back on level terms when CALLUM CROSSLAND hot a shot across the keeper at a angle.

With the game heading for a draw, Selston didnt give up and it was that man again JACK JAMES who rose again and headed home the winner.

Must thank Welbeck Welfare FC for the kind donation to start off this seasons Blog's Charity of £20..Every donation is really welcome towards Strawberry Fayre, a group of Disabled Adults that help housing issues and basic skills around the Kings Mill Reservior.
