GEDLING MW EDGE OUT GLAPWELL

Pre-season Friendly

GLAPWELL FC 1 GEDLING MINERS WELFARE 2
(played at Palterton)

A visit to see old friends from Glapwell FC and also meet some old faces from Gedling Miners Welfare is always nice as both clubs are very friendly. The match was played about a mile from Glapwell FC's ground on a pitch in Palterton, which is usually only used for sunday football.

I arrived for the 7pm kick off around 6.30pm and was met by Glapwell's website guy and last night he was Assistant Manager Paul Hepworth(no end to this lads talents, he will possibly be bucket man next time I see him!), Burnley John(well he has pride in supporting Burnley FC) and the vice chairman Paul's Dad. We had a chat before ref Jamie O' Connor arrived and joined us for a chat.

Car after car arrived with both sides and officials and the odd groundhopper, like locals Pete & John and the geordie chap with glasses and his mate wearing bill and ben sun hats!

The game kicked off and both sides played at a high tempo in blazing sunshine and after 15 minutes, the ref applied common sense by giving the teams a water break. the game kicked back off again and Gedling looked more threatening and after 27 minutes MACDONALD fired them ahead.

A walk round to near the Gedling Officials at half time gave me chance to say hello to old friends, Tony & Norman Hay and meet Ian Williams. It was also nice to meet Simmo the new Gedling manager from Southwell City and also long time pal Craig Clarke(ex Dunkirk FC).

The second half began with Glapwell looking the more brighter and on 53 minutes, it was BARBER who leveled up the scores. Glapwell had their best part of the game, but didnt take the advantage and Gedling fought their way back in and it came as no surprise when BRETT fired home the winner on 73 minutes.

Think both clubs will be happy with the run out as a 1st friendly of the season for them both.
