BADGERS SNATCH LATE GOAL TO DENY CLIPPO VICTORY

Pre-Season Friendly

CLIPSTONE FC 1 RETFORD UNITED FC 1

A lot has happened since I last went down to Clipstone, firstly the dropping of the Welfare in their name, the ground being re-named from the Lido Ground to Worksop Van Hire Ground and the hard work that has been put in by all the members around the ground in the improvements for all to see. Also local legend Brett Marshall has joined the club as Chairman.

On the gate on arrival was Mr Clipstone Barry Clarke who has been with the club for over 40 years and never seems to age though is just over the 70 years mark. Whilst chatting along came Milton Keynes based hopper JimmyJazz who had come up for the game. I just thank Jon Knight for the kind donation of programmes from the Retford United v Doncaster United match.

A nice chat with father and son match officials The Walkers and a very young lady assistant ref was nice to see.

Me and Jimmy took our seats around the halfway position in the seated part of the stand and was joined by local hopper Pete. The game kicked off at a good pace and Clipstone and cut out the better of the chances, with them hitting the bar twice and having a penalty appeal turned down, on another day the homesters could well have been out of sight come the half time whistle.

After the half time cuppa, kindly bought by Jimmy, we was greeted by fellow local blogger Dudsey who we joined for the second half. Dudsey kindly donation £5 owards the Blogs Charity, even though I had to ask him who he was(well last time I saw him, it was a very cold night at Rainworth and he was hiding under a cap!).

The game meanwhile was producing a good runout for both clubs and both looked as they may just sneak the odd goal. In the 70 minute, the Reford keeper came off his line and ended up stranded, with the ball ending up at the feet of JIMMY ADCOCK to slam in to a empty net to give Clipstone a well deserved goal after 70 minutes.

To be fair, players began to tire and subs were made and as the game was heading to the final whistle, Retford who had been pushing forward got a equaliser when LEE HOLMES scored at the death.

Must thank Nigel for a lift home after the match.

I must thank Clipstone FC for the kind donations of £14.60 towards the Blogs Charity of Strawberry Fayre.
