START's QUARTET SEES OFF THE VILLA

Notts Senior League
Senior Division
HUCKNALL ROLLS LEISURE FC 4 AWSWORTH VILLA FC 1

A rare Friday night for football in Nottinghamshire saw me pop down to the Hucknall Rolls Leisure for the second time in 48 hours after watching their Reserves draw with Kirton Brickworks on Wednesday evening.

On arrival, Sec Mark had saved my programmes and the friendly smiley chap Roy made me a cuppa and I had a chat with the Match Officials, before being joined by hoppers from near and far and even at one stage ended up dogsitting Ben whilst Len went and got the team line up's.

As kick off commenced, I went and stood with Len & Ben and Veteran and with NSL Sec John Beeston. The match started at a great pace with both teams having good chances to opening the scoring. After 13 minutes, Awsworth had a corner from the left and it was headed out of defence and hoocked forward to ANDY START who ran on to the ball and fired it under the approaching goalkeeper to put Rolls in to a 1-0 lead. The lead didnt last long as Awsworth pressed the Rolls backline and a cross that looped in from the left wing was met by ASHLEY MARSHALL who evaded his own keeper and saw the ball in the back of the net after just 20 minutes, much to the delight of some nice looking ladies from Awsworth who began to cheer their team on.

By now the game was being played at a frantic pace with both sides playing some excellent football, with chances going close, until on 25 minutes, a cross ball from the left wing, found ANDY START on the edge of the box, who looked up and fired home to make it 2-1.

At home time Roy made me and John Beeston a cuppa whilst Len & Ben bought their Groundhop Tickets(Len for the ticket and Ben to read the programmes!) and Veteran ordered his programme pack and also kindly made a donation to the Blog's Charity..Many thanks Dave.

The teams came out for the Second Half and I was joined by Dan Bishop from Newall United and we stood and chattered during the second half about things in general, but on the pitch, Awsworth went in search of that equalising goal, whilst the game was being played in the right spirit, but then on 52 minutes came goal of the game, when a ball came over from the left and ANDY START from 30 yards out turned and swung and met the ball and it ended up in the roof of the net..It reminded me of the Rooney goal from last season, though I doubt ANDY START will appear on Sky Sports this weekend, what a way to complete your hat trick.

A few late tackles went in and the ref Steve Sears showed a couple of yellow cards, but he had a very good game and it never looked as if it was going to get out of hand at anytime. Awsworth continued to press forward, but saw shots go very close, one just missing the right hand post on the hour.

On 65 minutes, ANDY START completed his fourth goal when a long ball found him one on one and he fired again under the keepers body after a defender had slipped.

A really good nights entertainment and a MASSIVE match this coming WEDNESDAY night at the Watnall Road ground when Top of the table Rolls host 2nd placed Kimberley Miners Welfare with a 7.30pm kick off..If I go and see Rolls anymore, they will make me a life member!
