SELSTON STAY IN THE HUNT

Notts Senior League
Senior Division
SELSTON FC 4 BOOTS ATHLETIC FC 2

Firstly I must apologise for the lateness of updating my blog, but fell ill on Saturday evening after 3 bad epliptic fits and spent Sunday in bed trying to recover.

A odd day at Selston FC where from kick off both sides seems to want to contest every decision made by the match referee John Hague, then after 17 minutes the ref pulled up in the centre circle and walked over to the Assistant Referee Barry Goodley and they swopped as John Hobbled along the line.

On 22 minutes, from a Boots corner, Selston played a clearance ball straight down the middle of the pitch where the midfielder played the ball through to DAMIAN JAMES who rounded the keeper and slotted his side in to the lead.

Boots tried to find a way back in to the game whilst Selston went in search of a second goal, but again the players seemed more interested in moaning at the ref rather than getting on with the game.

As I was heading behind the home goal on 45 minutes, Boots got a corner on the right that was swung in and landed at the feet of veteran KEVIN WALKER who made no mistake in equalising.

The Second Half commenced and Selston seemed to be concentrating on their football now whilst the visitors were still grumbling about every decision and whilst doing this after 52 minutes SEAN GREGORY made his way through the away defence to make it 2-1.

This seemed to prompt Boots in to life and Selston kept their lead after their keeper made a excellent save, but on 67 minutes, Selston were awarded a free kick some 30 yards out to which BEN MOORE curled in to the net to make it 3-1.

Now the Boots players were arguing amongst themselves and Selston playing the football and two minutes later increased their lead to 4-1 when Ben Moore's shot was parried by the keeper and DOMANIC AIREY followed up to place the ball in to the net.

To Boots credit they could have fallen apart at this stage but they began to play some football and on 74 minutes KEVIN WALKER smashed home his and his clubs second from a carbon copy move of their first goal.

On 83 minutes, Kevin Walker was through one on one with the Selston keeper and looked favourite to complete his hat trick but the home keeper had other ideas and spread himself well and the chance went begging and so did Boots comeback bid.
