Notts Senior League
Senior Division
ATTENBOROUGH FC 1 SANDHURST FC 3
att: 36
Not having been to the Strand for over 20 years, it was time for a re-visit, Attenborough FC had to pull out of the NSL Hop last season as Flood defences and also a new clubhouse and changing rooms were being built and after a lot of snow they admitted defeat and had to pull off until the NSL Groundhop 2016. A beautiful clubhouse has now been built, a credit to their committee who had spent a lot time building it themselves.
A nice cuppa before the game and a purchase of the programme and a few hellos to both sides and then then the officials then Mrs Linda Scutt kindly donated £10 to the Blogs Charity(massive thankyou to Linda), then I walked to the far side of the pitch but oh no, I'd forgot my camera today, hence no photos from the game.
The game kicked off and you couldn't tell that Sandhurst were bottom of the league as they held their defence well against a lively Attenborough front line and at half time either of the sides could have gone in front, with the best chances falling to the homesters whilst Sandhurst had seen a shot bounce back off the bar.
The Second Half saw the visitors push forward and on 57 minutes, a corner swung in from the right side in to a crowded area saw MARK SUMMERS slam the ball home..This seemed to shock Attenborough who seemed to give their visitors a lot more space and on 65 minutes, Sandhurst were awarded a free kick on the centre circle, which was hit long and headed down by Summers in to the path of CHARLIE WORMALD to fire his team in to a 2 goal lead..This two goal lead only lasted 30 seconds, as from the kick off, the ball was played out to the left and punted in for JAMES BECKS to fire home.
Attenborough push caution to the wind with players forward, but this left gaps at the back and on 73 minutes, along ball found Wormald running through in to the penalty area, with the defender headed the ball back towards Stanhope in the Attenborough goal but the home defender blocked Wormald challenging for the ball and a penalty was awarded, to which CLIFF CLARKE duly dispatched to put his side in to a 3-1 lead.
Attenborough tried to push forward but it wasn't to be their day.
