SELSTON MAKE IT SIX ON THE TROT

Notts Senior League
Senior Division
BEESTON AFC 1 SELSTON FC 3

A first visit for me to Beeston AFC a week before they are away in the Notts Senior League Groundhop next Saturday morning at Wollaton FC with a 10.10am kick off, with a view to AFC hosting a Hop game in 2 seasons time.

The visitors Selston FC have been in fine form of late winnng their last 5 games on the trot including a impressive 3-2 win away at Table Toppers Kimberley Miners Welfare FC on Wednesday Evening, leaving them going in to the game five points behind in second place with three games in hand.

I met Leicester based Rob Campion in the car park and the Beeston Chairman who was also manager today offered us a cuppa.

The game kicked off and began at a good pace with the home side cutting out the first two chances to which the visiting keeper made two very important saves to keep his side on level terms.

Selston weathered the storm well not so much storm as the spectators were getting wet in the fine rain and after 20 minutes, a cross from the right wing saw ASH PITT turn in to his own net to give the visitors the lead.

Beeston then pushed forward and got their deserts when ALEX FORD coolly finished from in the penalty area to level the scoreline at 1-1.

Selston began playing better football and went close on a couple of occasions as the rain began to lash down again. On 38 minutes again the ball was played out to Steve Smith on the right wing who's cross found BEN MOORE who volleyed home from close range.

Just after half time, the rain stopped and out came the sun, the first chance of the half went to Selston as a cross/shot wizzed past the far post. Then it was the Selston keeper being called twice in to the action, both times pushing the ball over the bar. Now the game was going from end to end and Selston could well have increased their lead and been out of sight as they hit the post twice in a matter of minutes.

With 74 minutes gone, a through ball by Moore saw STEVE SMITH race forward and slot home to make it 3-1 to Selston FC, whilst news began to filter through from Wollaton FC that Kimberley MW were losing 4-2(ended up 5-2 to Wollaton FC)

This result now leaves Selston FC two points behind Kimberley MW with three games in hand and the two clubs meet at Selston FC on 19th April

Well my next match is on Tuesday Evening where I go to Cotgrave FC v Wollaton FC, where I am picking up the Groundhop Programmes and badges to put in packs ready for Next Friday and Saturday..you can read more about the Notts Senior League Groundhop on this LINK The final match of the Hop will be a Championship Decider with West Bridgford FC hosting Bingham Town FC, with Kirton Brickworks three points ahead of West Bridgford FC having played all their matches.
