TEN MEN KIMBERLEY RETURN TO THE SUMMIT

Notts Senior League
Senior Division
SELSTON FC 2 KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE FC 4

It was Chairmans Day at the Parish Ground in Selston with games kicking off from 10am through to 5pm, the main match pitching top of the league Selston FC against joint 2nd placed Kimberley Miners Welfare FC. Selston had already beaten todays opponents 3-2 at the Stag Ground only 3 weeks ago.

On arrival, there were bouncing castles, a bar, a young lad having his legs waxed for charity, a tent with Tombola and all Selston gear for sale and the chairman Mark Wilson was enjoying strolling round greeting everyone.

I then took the Selston team pic and then joined for a chat with fellow bloggers Malc Storer and Kev Goodman, their blog is excellent..have a read HERE

Hazel and her daughter went off to do some retail shopping and Shawn joined in playing with his friends at Selston FC who he sees around the grounds now and again.

I took a stroll round pitchside and began to head for the stand on the far side of the ground, but just as I was passing the near goal, a Selston attack down the other end, saw two blocked shots fall out to DOMINIC CARRAGHER who fired home after 8 minutes.

I then spoke to the 2 brothers from Ilkeston who attended their first ever Groundhop last week and thanked me and have already told me to put them down for next seasons, after 24 minutes, that ball was floated in to the Selston box and the defence stood still whilst JAKE FISHER took his time to head the ball home.

As we were heading towards the half time break, a player from each side faced up to each other and the referee correctly cautioned Selston's Sean Gregory and the visiting Michael Murphy. From the free kick, a late crunching tackle from behind by Murphy saw him not even wait for the second yellow card as he left the pitch.

Halftime came and Shawn wanted a go on the bouncing castle slide thing and off again he went to play with his friends, whilst I joined Notts Senior League Secretary John Beeston and we digested over the previous weekends Groundhop. With us stood quite away from pitchside, I didn't take hardly any photos in the second half.

The Second Half began with Selston pressing forward with their 1 man advantage and on 51 minutes made it pay when KIERAN HEATH headed them in front. On 57 minutes, a golden opportunity was missed when Sean Gregory's header stuck the crossbar and within a minute, the scores were level when ELLIOT ROULSTONE followed up on a loose ball that the home keeper had pushed out from a previous shot.

Kimberley didn't look as if they had a man less and the equaliser seemed to spur them on and after 76 minutes took the lead for the first time in the game when a corner from the left side found its way to IAN SHEPHERD who tapped home.

With seconds to go, JAKE FISHER went through one on one and the keeper got a glove to the ball but it dropped back to Fisher who finished the game off.

Mark Wilson kindly made a donation to the Blog's Charity The Oaklands for Special Needs Adults and he kindly took time out to have a chat and thanked me for attending and said that after the success of last seasons groundhop at Selston Fc, it gave them the idea to have a annual Chairmans Day and with the attendance of 289 with a good family day for the village,, this will be a great day in the calendar.
