Pre-Season Friendly
SWANWICK PENTRICH ROAD FC 2 NETHERFIELD ALBION FC 2
My first ever visit to Swanwick and a pleasant surprise at this tidy ground, a nice refreshments bar was doing well in selling quite a few bottles of water in this blazing sunshine as the club are looking forward to returning to the Central Midlands League after spending a good 20 years away. Meanwhile, their visitors Netherfield Albion of the Notts Senior League Division One just missed out on a promotion position last season, so this looked like a good friendly to pull in.
The game began fairly even, but it was the visitors who had the first chance to open the scoring when awarded a spot kick, but the penalty taker tried to chip the keeper but his shot didnt leave the floor and ended up like a back pass to which the keeper dived and pushed the ball away after only 8 minutes.
The teams had agreed to play 3 x 30 minutes due to the heat and to take water breaks, the rest of the first third was played at a stroll to be fair, with players struggling with the unusual weather.
The Second Third saw some cloud in the sky and the temp dropped slightly and the players began to up their games. Chances were made by both sides and towards the end of the third in the 56 minute, it was the Swans that took the lead through a 25 yard shot by TURNER.
In the third period after just 2 minutes, Albion were back on level terms when HUSKINGTON headed home from a corner. Both sides made a lot of chances to look at players and after 68 minutes, it was the home side ahead again, this time through WAGHORN who curled a shot in from 25 yards. Albion werent going to give up after a creditable performance and 10 minutes from time came the goal of the night when HORTON moved inside and hit the net from around 30 yards. Swanwick had the final chance when a header from the corner was ruled out.
