BASFORD THROUGH TO THE FINAL FOUR

Picked up at 6.45pm by my mate Daz Wragg and off to Clipstone we headed. Had a cuppa before the match and a few hello's to all.

 

For the First Half I went over towards the stand on the side and stood with old friend Richard Lane and some of the Newark Town lads turned up. The match kicked off in slight drizzle with both sides cutting out the odd chance, but Clipstone had a few injury problems and were forced to change their game plan after making 2 subs in the first 13 minutes.

 

On 25 minutes, it was one of those subs IAN HILLIER that opened the scoring with a hook shot from a good 25 yards out and Clipstone looked good for their lead. It looked like they were to hold on to the lead for the half time break but the visitors had other ideas after 42 minutes when MARK BROOKES cross shot deflected and went over the home keeper.

 

After the half time cuppa, the rain took hold and thrashed down, but the pitch looked perfect, credit goes to the groundsman. I stayed behind the goal and stood with Mr & Mrs Retford Knight. Clipstone began the second half on the right foot and began to attack and went very close several times with Haslam becoming a threat along with Watson.

 

But as Clipstone wasted a few chances, Basfords were at limit but they took them and this happened after 66 minutes when Anderson cross for TJ NIGHTINGALE headed home. Clipstone upped their game and threw everything at the Basford back four and the keeper had to be in fine form to preserve their slender lead.

 

On 70 minutes with Watson going forward, he was bought down and the ball landed at Haslam with only the keeper to beat, but the referee bought the game back and sent off the Basford player as he was last man and gave a free kick.

 

On 73 minutes, Clipstone had a corner and the ref had already warned a Basford player, as the corner came in from the right, the Basford player pushed the Clipstone forward in full view of the referee and the ref had no  hesistation in pointing to the penalty spot, much to some of the visiting players anger. Up stepped CARL HASLAM who fired home the equaliser.

 

The game looked there for Clipstone now and when a shot from outside the box came in, the keeper just stood and watched as it bent away from the goal at the last second.

 

On 83 minutes, a Basford player went down outside the box and I think most on the ground thought the ref had given a free kick but had awarded a corner on the left hand side, a well taken corner came in and was met by CARRUTHERS who headed his side in to the semi final of the Notts Senior Cup

HUCKNALL ROLL TO THREE POINTS

I was going to Underwood Villa v Netherfield Albion today until when I found out the match was being played at Underwood's ground I altered my plans, as I looked out the window it was drizzling here in Mansfield and thought I'd ring the contact I have at Hucknall Rolls Royce to check if there was a planned pitch inspection, as my facebook group Non League England Wales & Scotland was getting a lot of games called off. When I rang, the reply was I've no idea I'm in Cambodia!!

I then rang Darren Ward at Burton Joyce FC and he said he had heard nothing to say it wasn't on and it was a 3pm kick off, so all systems go and it was Hucknall Rolls Leisure FC I was heading for.

On arrival, I was greeted by the Rolls Management and the young lady who was doing the secretary job today, as was she when I last saw Rolls when they beat Bilborough Town first game of the season. I was then invited for a cuppa and again at half time.

With Hucknall Rolls in second place in the table, two points behind leaders Kimberley Miners Welfare, this was a must win game for them. Burton Joyce FC in the bottom half of the table.

 

The game kicked off and Burton Joyce FC had not read the script as after just 108 seconds, TROY SMITH broke through and put the visitors in to a shock lead. Burton Joyce continued to create the better of the chances and could well have been 3-0 up, whilst Rolls play seemed to break down and not really test the visiting keeper.

 

Thinking of my half time cuppa on 43 minutes and a handball occurred in the visitors penalty box giving Referee Barry Goodley no option but to award a home penalty to which it was duly dispatched by ANDY START to level up the scores. There was still more to come with seconds on the watch in the first half, when a foul 30 yards out gave the homesters a free kick, which CONNOR WHITES swerved over the Burton Joyce wall giving the keeper no chance to send Rolls in to a half time lead 2-1.

 

The Second half got underway with Hucknall stepping up the game and attacking a lot more making the visiting keeper work a lot more, but Burton Joyce wasn't without chances either. On 65 minutes, a ball was crossed in and GREG CONN swept past the Burton Joyce keeper to increase the home teams advantage to 3-1. Within two minutes, it was 4-1 when a long free kick from the left side was sent in and met low by the head of ANDY START.

The visitors didn't give up and hit the bar with a looping shot, whilst at the other end, their keeper pulled off two very good saves .

MARLOW'S HAT TRICK SETS MAGDALA ON THE WAY

With my plan A match being called off at Castlecroft Rangers in the Staffs Cup on Friday afternoon, it was to plan B and to head to Sandhurst FC who never seem to have a home game called off. It also gave me a chance to visit the final club of the 10 on this seasons Notts Senior League Groundhop.

On arrival, I was greeted by the 3 match officials, the referee Colin White, his wife works on the cancer unit that I have to attend each year. He says no problem at all with the pitch.

Two local hoppers then appear and get their programmes before I join them for a chat, Michael Pridgeon & Stuark Pykett and I stand with them for most of the match. They inform me that Sandhurst FC have the worse goals against in the Division, whilst the visitors Magdala have scored the most in the Division, so it should be a cricket score today.

The game kicked off in dull light with a fine drizzle with the visitors being first to the ball, but only having one up front the ball was just being cleared by the home defence time after time. After 31 minutes, a long high free kick by the left winger was met by the head of SIMON MARLOW who glanced the ball past the home keeper to give the visitors the lead.

During the half time break, I met a couple from the Sheffield area who had come down to hop the ground and as we ventured back out in to the dizzly weather, Sandhurst could and should have been back on level terms when a forward rounded the keeper and instead of slotting in to a empty net, he played the ball back to another incoming player whose shot was blocked and cleared.

Straight up the other end and Magdala must have thought they had doubled their lead when a long shot was tipped on to the bar and over by the home keeper.  Sandhurst then began to play their best part in the game and if they had managed to score, it would have been a interesting finish to the game, but the last 20 minutes belonged to Magdala who looked a lot fitter but Sandhurst didnt give up.

On 71 minutes, a through ball by a visiting midfielder to SIMON MARLOW saw him slot the ball under the oncoming keepers body to put his side 2-0 to the good. On 78 minutes, came SIMON MARLOW's Hat trick and the goal of the game when the ball was floated in from the right hand side for Marlow to overhead kick the ball in to the net to make it 3-0.

As people were now looking at their watches and the light was beginning to disappear, Magdala broke once again after 90 minutes through ANDY SCARBOROUGH who fired the ball home to make it Sandhurst FC 0 Magdala Amateurs FC 4.

HONOURS EVEN AT THE MEMORIAL

A great advert for Central Midlands League between two teams who played very good football in a game where no one grumbled about taking a point from.

 

On arrival I was greeted by Mr Southwell Pat Johnson and bought a cuppa and had a seat with Southwell's keeper Alex Smith's dad and his lovely Girlfriend and another players attractive piece!

 

Out I went and took the Southwell City team pic and took up my position next to a few of the Pinxton faithful. The game began and it was a good pace with the visitors winning the first part of the game and indeed it was the visitors who looked more likely to open the scoring with a shot for the halfway line that had the home keeper back peddling to see the ball bounce off thhe bar after 14 minutes.

 

In Southwells's first attack, it saw REGGIE ROYES fire them in front to cheer on the home supporters amongst the crowd of 80. With the sun dipping I strolled round the pitch and joined a groundhopper who was a friend of Brian Buck.

 

Pinxton then thought it want to be their day when they saw another long shot bounce off the post. In the 35th minute, the were awarded a free ick just outside the box, which was hit straight in to the arms of Smith.

 

As I edged round towards the clubhouse on 45 minutes, Pinxton were awarded another free kick in a similar position, to which this time JAY COOPER stepped up and blasted in to the net to send the teams in level at half time.

 

The Second Half saw Pinxton picked their game and Cooper had two good chances but put them both over the bar when through on goal from a angle, but after 52 minutes, JAY COOPER made no mistake this time when he stroked away his and his clubs second of the game.

 

On 64 minutes, a late challenge around the half way line saw Pinxton reduced to ten players as the player had already been cautioned earlier in the game.

 

This spurred the Minstermen forward and they got their reward on 71 minutes when after a goal mouth scramble TAZ NADIE forced the ball over the line.

 

A fair result in the end. After the match a chap bought me a pint and asked that the money go  in to my blog's charity and also Southwell City made a kind donation..I'd like to thank everyone, as now the running total stands at £356.25 for the Oaklands for Disabled Adults.

AFC GO NAP HAND AGAINST WELBECK

My post Christmas match presented top of the league versus bottom, as good friend and Welbeck Manager Brian Wheatcroft offered me a lift. With the home club in such good form and Welbeck struggling this looked like it was going to be goal whore of a day and anything under 10 goals would be a morale victory for the visitors.

 

On arrival I was greeted in the car park by Mr Welbeck FC himself Graham Hall and in to the ground I bought the first programme of the day from AFC Mansfield's programme editor/cameraman Pete Craggs. I was then greeted by AFC man Andy Saunders who wished me a Merry Christmas and gave me a AFC Box with a couple of chocolates in, a couple of car ice scrapers and a AFC pen.

 

I went in the bar and met local hopper Peter Chappell who paid for his Notts Senior League Groundhop Ticket(11th-12th April) and soon joined in the bar by Tony from Kirton Brickworks FC and Herbie and his wife Sue.

 

I went outside for kick off and was joined by former Welbeck manager Lewis Saxby. The game kicked off and AFC pushed forward and looked as if they would score at any minute and they did after 14 minutes when STEVE McGURK fired home from close distance. I thought the floodgates were to open, but Welbeck began to believe in themselves and played some good football and on two occasions could well have found themselves level with shots going across the goal and wide and also forcing the home keeper in to a couple of saves, though to be fair the away keeper was also in fine fettle keeping the score down.

 

The Second half kicked off and before we could settle down in the 46th minute, DEAN RICK had pounced on a loose ball and does what he does best and fired home. In the 48th minute, the game got worse for the visitors when JOE NAYLOR fired home from a good 25 yards.

 

I strolled down in to the stand to sit with Richard Lane and his son Ricky and Andy Saunders came round with the card, the game continued then I heard over the tannoy, the WINNER OF THE CARD IS WATFORD>>>ROB H..yipppeeeee, that's £20 i'm better off!!!

 

I settled back down in my seat after that excitement just in time for DEAN RICK to make it 4-0 after 79 minutes. Within a minute, JOE NAYLOR doubled his tally with another 25 yard plus bullet to make it 5-0.

THE MOORS SERVE UP WIN IN NEWARK

NOTTS SENIOR LEAGUE

Before this match Newark Flowserve were in 2nd place whilst visitors sat behind 3rd in the League table, both with games in hand over top of the league Ashland Rovers, so a lot to play for today.

 

I rang Flowserve Matchday Sec Matt Wade for a chat on Friday Night and again after overnight rain on Saturday morning to confirm the game was on. I have seen this club under different names over the years and it has always been a welcoming friendly club under the titles of Worthington Simpson FC, IDP FC and now Newark Flowserve FC.

 

On arrival, outside the visitors changing room stood Moorgreen FC manager Keiran Edwards puffing away on a fag and was soon met by home Sec Matt Wade. Then out the clubhouse entered old friend Dave Hurstfield.

 

A couple of kind gestures as I went in to the tidy clubhouse as Matt had set up a tab for me and my family as guests of the day and Keiran had organised a whip round from the players and staff of Moorgreen FC for the Blog's Charity..I have put money for the hospitality from the Newark club towards the charity total as well, so a massive thankyou to both clubs.

 

The game kicked off with the wind howling from behind the clubhouse end driving down the pitch and to Moorgreen's advantage and it wasn't long before they were in front, as after just 6 minutes when DAVIES pounced on a loose ball to fire home. This seemed to spur the visitors on and if not for brave keeping by the home goalie and poor finishing this game could well of been out of the homesters sight by half time.

 

After my half time cuppa, a chat with the home management and with the wind to their backs, could they make it pay off. The second half kicked off and Moorgreen seemed to deal with the conditions the best and went very close several times including hit the post on a couple of occasions. Whilst the score was 1-0, you had a feeling that the amount of chances that the visitors were spurning, it would only take one chance to bring the home team back in to this game and this nearly happened in the 86th minute, when clean through and in front of goal, the home attacker  is kicked his shot only to see it go wide.

 

With the clock ticking down and in to the final minute, DILKS doubled the visitors lead to secure the three points, but this was the final act, as the home side poured forward,  this left a massive gap at the back and with a quick breakaway BOWLER hammered home a third.

As the final whistle blew, Moorgreen knew they had taken a giant three points today and the players joined joint managers Edwards and Slaney and the 2 assistants Kiss and Roe in a joyful heap on the pitch.

Referee Scott Anderson had a good match where he explained every decision to the players,so they knew what he had awarded.

After raising over £800 for the Cancer Unit at Kings Mill, me and hazel felt we should look to help a project or charity that is a bit smaller for the forthcoming season.

This season 2013-14, we are to aiming to support a small vital community group, where adults with special needs learn life skills and get help with housing and living independant but with support, cooking, ironing and some things we all take for granted.

We have found over the years, there are groups and charities for children up to the age of 16 years but then as they advance in years, there is little or no support at all.

This season we have decided to help a charity called The Oaklands. I will advertise a few of their upcoming events and when they have updated their website(which they are doing at present) I will add it to the blog.

This charity gives the adults with special needs not only great support but confidence and also respite from their family or carers also.

If you see me at a match and wish to make a donation, no matter how large all small, all will be gratefully accepted.

 

 

ALL EVEN IN SIX GOAL THRILLER AT THE JOYCE

With Burton Joyce having lost their last seven games on the bounce and laying 4th from bottom of the table hosting their guests from Selston FC high-flying 3rd in the table, there surely could only be one outcome, a win to the visitors.

 

On arrival, I was met by the home manager/secretary Darron Ward who issued me with a few programmes from previous matches, though todays had been left at the office and has been promised to be forwarded on to me. As I was finishing my cuppa in walked Stuart Pykett who I've not seen for some time so had a natter with him.

 

As I took off to the far end of the pitch, I noticed that since my last visit, the home club had installed new dugouts for both sides, this came as a benefit today against the strong wind sweeping down the pitch. As the match was about to kick off, I was joined by old friends father and son Fred & Mark Hackett it was good to see Fred as he has been recently poorly with cancer and having come through chemo, he is now gladly in remission.

 

Selston FC began on the front foot and were in front when DOMINIC AIREY blasted home after 14 minutes. The lead was doubled by TIMOTHY MOORE  after 26 minutes and it looked like the homesters were in for a bit of a tough afternoon. It got even worse for Burton Joyce in the 40th minute when thee ball was headed home from a corner.

 

The players stayed on the pitch at half time and had drinks and me and the Hacketts felt there would be no way back for the homesters and this could well end up a cricket score, how wrong can you be?

 

Words must have been said by the Joyce Manager, as they floated a ball forward from kick off and reduced the arrears in the 46th minute. This seemed to spur the home side on and give them belief as in the 57th minute, they score again to make it 2-3 and it seemed there was only one team in it, Selston seemed to have fallen asleep as their manager barked out orders from the side lines to no avail.

 

In the 65th minute, a goal bound shot hit the hands of a Selston defender and the referee pointed straight to the spot, where the home striker stepped up and smash home to make it 3-3.

CAVS HOLD THE KEY IN THE SECOND HALF

NOTTS SENIOR LEAGUE

Senior Division

KEYWORTH UNITED FC 1 FC CAVALIERS 2

Keyworth United FC are currently rooted to the bottom of the League Table but if they can play like they did in the First Half then they should have no problems, sadly a game lasts 90 minutes and a good turn around by the visitors saw FC Cavaliers return home with the points.

 

After the minutes silence, I wandered about taking a few photos, whilst Keyworth took the game to Cavs in a lively start to the game after 21 minutes, the homesters took the lead, when a forward was upended in the box and up stepped BEN CLARK to strike from the penalty spot. Keyworth were good value for their lead and on several occasions could well have added to their tally, but not to be so.

 

After a half time cuppa, it was back out and time to see Keyworth's new floodlights glowing, I joined Ref's Assessor Roy around the half way line and had a chat, whilst Cavaliers must have had a good talking to in their half time break, as they began to find gaps in the home defence and went close a couple of times before LIAM TAYLOR ran through and stroked the ball under the keeper after 59 minutes.

 

Keyworth had a few more chances and on another day could well have been back in front but the Cav's number 4 was excellent at the back and covered most of the forward runs to stop the home club.

 

On 72 minutes, after the ball had ping ponged around the hone box, KUWESI OFUSHINE lashed on to a loose ball and belted home the winning goal. Keyworth still had their chance to get level and after 86 minutes, thought they had, when a rocket of a shot bounced back off the bar.

 

All three officials had a good game and the ref only cautioned one player and in the final seconds gave a straight red to a home player for something he must have said.

 

After the match, I had a very good groundhop meeting with the home club committee.

BRIDGFORD CLOSE THE GAP ON LEAGUE LEADERS

WEST BRIDGFORD FC 2 UNDERWOOD VILLA FC 1

Up to yesterday, I wasn't going anywhere today having been laid up in bed with flu since Monday and Hazel feeling under the weather too. This morning, it was a early start with Shawn's Boys Brigade having their Christmas Fayre, feeling abit better I rang the secretary of Keyworth United Fc and he explained that it best I not go over to Platt Lane today as a couple of their committee were away this weekend and could I have the groundhop meeting at their next home game. I then rang Baz at West Bridgford FC to check they were at home today and to call a Groundhop meeting with them after their match. Funny I should go today as this was the reverse Groundhop fixture from last season that resulted in a 2-2 draw.

 

A nice greeting on arrival was met by both clubs and by todays Referee Colin White, then was approached by Underwood's new signing Scott Thorpe who asked f we could give him a lift home, after he had caught the bus from Mansfield to this game.

 

As the players entered the pitch, I looked around to find I was the only spectator whilst the players did the respect handshake, then I was joined by a few locals and a few of the visiting sides dads..

 

The First Half saw West Bridgford hit the bar and go close from a free kick whilst Villa had a couple of chances of their own, just as I was thinking of my half time cuppa, the homesters gained a corner which bounced around the area until JORDON McKENZIE swept home to give his side a half time lead.

 

After my half time cuppa, I joined Baz for the Second Half and had a good chat about football with both sides playing some good football, but it was West Bridgford who looked the most likely to score and that is infact what they did after 58 minutes when PATRICK NEWSON doubled the lead.

 

This game was far from over, as Villa had their best spell of the game and the home keeper was called in to action a couple of times before being beaten in the 68th minute by JOSH HUNT to set up a end to end last 20 plus minutes.

 

A good GROUNDHOP meeting with West Bridgford FC after the match and they are really geared up for Saturday 12th April and look to welcome all to their ground, where they will be issuing their FIRST EVER MATCHDAY PROGRAMME.

TOWN BING INTO THE THIRD ROUND

BINGHAM TOWN FC 5 BEESTON AFC 0

 

Last season, I  came to Butt Lane and saw Bingham Town FC beat FC05 5-0, but on the way to this cup tie, I felt this would be a close affair with Bingham in the top half of the League One table hosting Beeston AFC flying high in the Senior Division. How wrong can one be?

 

On arrival, I met in the car park, former referee Geoff Siddons and headed for the clubhouse for a cuppa, sat there was local hopper Derek Clowes, so first half I stood between the two markouts near the halfway line.

 

The match kicked off and it was visable that Bingham seemed to be first to the ball and picking up every stray ball and looked more pumped up for the tie than their opponents from the west side of Nottingham.

 

A few meaty tackles were going in and the referee was having strong words with a few players whilst trying to keep the play rolling. From a corner from the left side, the ref's whistle blew and everyone looked at him in the 25th minute, as he indicated a push and pointed to the spot. Up stepped ADAM SENTANCE to pump home the ball to put the hosts in to the lead.

 

The game then went through a five minute spell when a Bingham Town player had to leave the field of play with a bad looking gash on his eye. Within a minute of the re-start, the Beeston forward and home keeper collided and the ball was cleared but the keeper stayed own and needed aid, but got up and was able to carry on.

 

Just before half time, I stood with 2 officials from Burton Joyce FC and at half time had a bovril with them and a good old chat. The Second Half kicked off and Bingham were soon on the front foot, with their attackers running through at well, whilst the away defence struggled to cope with them. It was through a through ball to GEORGE ABBOTT after 58 minutes who slid the ball past the oncoming keeper to double his sides lead.

 

Beeston tried to get back in to the game,  but their forwards had the wrong boots on today as any shots went well over the bar or wayward. This left gaps at the back and after 74 minutes, a fine cross from the left wing, was delightfully met by the head of JACOB WALL to increase the score to 3-0.

 

With me thinking of my burger and chips and sign of extra time today, the scoring hadn't finished as JACOB WALL on 82 minutes hit the ball goal bound and the opposition defender helped the ball over the line to make it 4-0. Bingham could have added to their tally when hitting the post and also brave keeping by the Beeston keeper, but he couldn't stop ADAM SENTANCE scoring his second and his teams fifth of the game after 88 minute to wrap up the tie.
